ASR, SYS, and Security Light Problem Solved
I just wanted to pass along my solution to the problem of the ASR, SYS, and Security Light Problem on a 93. I have not seen the solution to this problem posted here. The symptom of the problem was as I drove, the ASR light came on and the the Sys plus security light would flash, stop for about 30 seconds and flash again. After the car was turned off with the lights, then when I tried to start, if the ASR and the flashing lights were there, the car would not start. The CCM diagnostics (A jumpered to G) indicated a failure in the serial bus. The service manual confirmed the SYS and Security lights, but did not mention the ASR. I then determined it was not the EBTCM (ASR/ABS module) by unpluging the module. Same no start. Found that if the ECM and CCM failed initial message transfer, the fuel system is not enabled. I next pulled the ECM and all the lights remained. Since the problem only occurred after the vette warmed up, I placed a bag of ice on the ECM. Bingo the lights reset. Next, I heated the ECM with a heat gun with the ignition on, engine off. The ASR light, SYS and Security came on.
