Received the rods/pistons back from machinist. They removed 1 gram of metal each. Reinstalled and spins over like a charm.

Was able to get the shortblock complete save for the oil pan. My aftermarket oil pump driveshaft did not fit the oil pump drive stub...aftermarket parts once again...nothing a bit of dremel won't take care of. :)

Good point on the oil pan. My Canton hit in 3 places on the crank scraper...installation on the third try (after removing and grinding) was the charm.

Guess that means my crank scraper is as close as possible...:)

I'm really surprised that the rods didn't clear. You aren't dealing with too much stroke there...and these are capscrew style rods. Some good cautions about the Scat "H" beams.

If you ever decide to build another 383, a good alternative to these are the Lunati pro-mod rods. For about $600, these rods are very light, capscrewed and stroker profiled.

Thanks for passing on the rod experiences. Also, be sure to adjust your oil pan baffel and scraper for the new stroke! sj
