Ok, one of the new things I wanted to get for my (new to me LT4) is a x-pipe setup. I was hoping to remove the middle, what I think to be the resonator, and replace it with some pipe and an X-pipe. The car has corsa mufflers on it already but it seems very very quiet to me. I did get the factory mufflers with the car too, but I'm hopeing for some performance and sound from this. Is the exhaust pipe 2 1/2" ? Mine has two pipes that run into this one 'resonator' and two coming out of it. Seems to me a good way to cut some weight and get some of that sound and performance I want. On a side note, if I put in the 160 degree themostat (I have it already), what else will I need to change to make the computer/engine work right? I hate to but LT1 edit for this reason alone, and from what I've seen so far, it's kinda scary getting making sure you get things 'more right' that wrong and making things worse. If they offered a good program to 'baseline from' or a '12hp mod program', it would have more value. I'm looking for suggestions as this isn't the carb history I'm used to. Thanks for any assistance. :chevy
Went on E-bay and found a Magnaflow X-pipe (2.5") for $40'ish. Had a local muffler shop install the Corsa exhaust, but instead using the Corsa resonator, use the X-pipe in its place (they added some exhaust tubing to the x-pipe).
The sound is simply awesome.....especially when I get on the throttle. It's not quiet by any means. If you like the quietness of the Corsa, you might not like the additional sound of the X-pipe.
I love your suggestion and it sounds right. The Corsas are a little quiet for me, although I don't want a full open straight pipe sound either. So this sounds like a wonderful compromise and might be exactly the ticket I'm looking for. Thanks much. Ken
