First of all..... :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :mad :mad :mad :cuss :cuss :cuss :cuss :cuss
Ok....my brothers 88 has been sitting in the garage for about 2 months now, and its really starting to **** me off. It was running fine til one day it started stalling and wouldnt run at all eventually. Took it to the shop, they said the injectors were leaky and needed to be replaced. Ordered these slp injectors http://www.slponline.com/view_produc...RTNUMBER=23051 and installed them.
The rail holds pressure great, the car starts pretty easy, and then the damn thing idles at 2500rpm and smells really rich... I pulled the rail to check the new injectors for leaks and there are none and I have replaced the fuel pressure regulator as well. The throttle body plate is not stuck open, and I have no idea what else the problem could be. When the car runs it throws codes 33 and 36 for MAF sensor and burnoff and power relays. I replaced both relays and swapped the maf for the one in my 89 which works great in my car everyday and it has made no difference.
Please help, I have no ideas left except for an "accidental garage fire" :mad :cuss
Re: What the HELL is wrong with this car!! (Wheelman)
Well, I'll give you some ideas check real close for vacum leaks. disconect one hose a t a time and plug the ports. use a propane torche and a hose to probe around all the places it might leak. you will see a noticeable change in the rpm when the propane is sucked into the engine. check closely at any place you took apart to install the injectors. did you use new orings on the injectors( in to the manifold)?

Do you have access to a scanner? What does it say the RPM is? The IAC counts?
Unplug the MAF and start it up. What does it do?
Set the IAC closed (Key On, Engine Off, Unplug IAC after 30 sec)
Start the engine. What does it do?
(Error codes & symptoms tell me there is a good vacuum leak.)
By all means, don't burn it. Donate it to my collection. I'll even come pick it up. :hurray:

If the fuel pressure regulator isn't leaking, then it's the injectors.
Trust me. Rip it all apart and put the original injectors back on, and it'll work. :yesnod: I had the same problem, I just haven't found the solution yet.
Before you do that, you could try this, which I never thought of doing: Pull all those stupid clips off the injector plugs.. and fire it up. Then unplug each injector one at a time and see what happens.
Re: What the HELL is wrong with this car!! (Wheelman)
I have the same injectors. The 25# rating must be bogus. I had to turn FP way down to compensate. It was running way rich. In order for it to idle that fast it has to be getting air to go with that extra gas. Like a vacuum leak. How much FP do you have? How much vacuum do you have? Im :banghead: and Ive never seen the car.

I agree on the vacuum leak idea.
Recently I was getting MAF codes & Running Rich codes on my IROC; when a friend put a vacuum pump onto the EGR valve vacuum port we found that it would not pump down fully nor hold vacuum. After I replaced the EGR valve idle settled right down and all those codes were gone.
BTW, I was able to replace the EGR valve with removing only the plenum. Though I had to hit the two bolts with some Blaster and get a very short wrench to access the rear bolt.

Unfortunately, the genious already threw away the original injectors

If you decided to replace the injectors, get a hold of Rich at Cruzinperformance. He might have a decent deal for you on some OEM injecotrs laying around. rich@cruzinperformance.com

One thing you most likely need to do is get a new chip burned to shorten the injector pulse width to accomidate the change in flow. Depending on how much you want to pay theres a number of companies out there to do it. Jet was going to do my friend's 1987 IROC as a custom job but couldn't get the pulse width short enough to accomidate his new larger (I think they were either 24# or 26#) injectors. I have 24# on mine right now and got my chip burned by TPiS due to my Mini-Ram. The 25# injectors may also be too large for a stock tuned-port setup, most likely the reason my friend couldn't get his pulse width short enough. Good luck!
