I had a set of Heddmans, but never installed them. They seemed to be pretty poor quality. The mounting flanges were very thin and I've heard many people say that they are difficult to get to seal.

This is exactly what I've heard time & time again. I would suppose anyone actually running these with no problems are just plain lucky :) Don't buy Hedman.
That is pretty strong advice from someone with no first hand experience.
Hedman does NOT enjoy great favor with CF members. I wonder how many of the nay sayers, have tried them. Case in point, above. However, I have seen numerous posts from satisfied Hedman users. Given the selection of 1 5/8ths" headers, *I* wouldn't be afraid to try them. MY advice, in any case is to buy any header coated or have them coated. Good luck, and...
Exotic Muscle still lists 1 5/8" full length headers on their web site. The uncoated ones (p/n C1170) are $379.95. The ceramic coated ones (p/n C1175) are $549.95). These p/n's are for L98 engines.
I have coated Hedmans with all the fittings...been on for 2 yrs with no problems, no leaks, nothing. Changing plugs is a major PITA; have to get them from the bottom with a shortened plug socket and open-end wrench. They don't have the extended spacers for the bolts, so I used studs and spacers on # 1 & #2, and made my own support braces for the Alt & AC.
His are TPIS 1 5/8" headers. We did a test early last year between my Hooker 1 3/4 headers, and his 1 5/8" headers. He switched them at the track after some baseline test and the 1 3/4 headers only gained .06sec. Not much to write home about.
If your in the market for some of them, Corky is getting rid of his for his new motor, 434, with much larger heads which WILL need larger headers. You might be able to save some cash if you get in touch with him:

Topic says it all.......... TIA

Have you seen the GP in C4 parts for sale? Nice stainless headers, guaranteed forever. Not cheap but very high quality. Mine showed up yesterday, works of art.
I have Hedman Hedders # 68440. I've had them on since 12/02 and have had one major problem and one minor, both were kind of my fault.
First the major, I didn't fit them before coating and as it turned out, there was not enough clearance between the #8 tube and the evap box. I smoldered the evap box when we were setting the 1.6 rockers. I could have had the #8 bent more before coating or returned the headers all together.
The minor problem was the bolts were coming loose and the rear most one on the driver side went MIA causing gasket failure. I never once checked the bolts to see if they were loose b/c I figured the red locktite would hold better than it did.
Overall I think they are a good header if you're on a tight budget like I was, fit could have been better but I think my next header purchase will be of stainless steel and I'm already saving my pennies for those.
Check with Corvette Central. Seems that is where I got mine years ago. Good pieces with equal length tubes and thick flanges. No leaks in all these years. Check the bolts once in a while. Tpis looks like they would be easier to change the plugs. I've got 2 or 3 specially bent box ends to change plugs with. PITA
