I'm in the process of installing a 4L80E in my 88 C4.
1) I was going to purchase a 153T 400CI flexplate for this swap but the 4L80E torque converter bolt mounting circle diameter is too large for the 153T flexplate. I can't drill it because the hole will be too close to the ring gear. Which flexplate should I use?
2) Can I use the stock 700R4 shifter with the 4L80E?
3) What are the known stock internal "weak" parts in this transmission?

1.) I am not aware such a flex plate exisits. Every 400 *I've* ever seen came with a TH400 (if auto) and a 168 toothed flex plate. Of course a 400 flexplate has the external balance, "unbalance" weights. Also, your '88 engine has a one piece rear main seal, which dictated a different flywheel/flexplate flange bolt pattern on the crank. No 400s were built with a 1 piece rear seal, therefore, no 400 flexplate will bolt to your crank. When you go to a 168 toothed 'plate, you will have to change starters. The 4L80E is just an overdrive TH400.
2.) No first hand knowledge, But I would suspect it would.
thanks for your reply...Will a 168T starter fit in my 88 C4? I thought the vettes required the smaller diameter 153T flexplate because there was no room for the 168t and starter.
