Quick question about L98 EGR valve.
Fact: I applied vacuum to it with a hand pump, and the diaphram lifted. It also holds a vacuum.
Question: Does this sound like I'm being scammed?
Smog technician's recommendation: Says the EGR valve DEFINITELY needs to be replaced.
Anyways...this means one of two things:

Did you apply vacuum to the vaccum lines attached to it? Are they cracked? Perhaps your diverter valve itself is the culpret if it isn't working.

The tech said the EGR wasn't working... he hooked a vaccuum pump directly to it.
I haven't checked the other stuff all out yet..

Th complete test is to apply and hold a vacuum and start the engine. The vacuum should drop to zero. If that happens, the EGR valve is OK.

I thought the EGR was simply a vacuum actuated valve.
You're saying the exhaust back pressure will cause it to close up? Wonder how the vacuum drops... I suppose it's not a sealed air volume in there?
I'll try what you mentioned and get back to ya.
