Are the rocker arms self-aligning? Are the guide plates the factory do nothings? Or aftermarket "real" guide plates? The purpose of hardened push rods is to prevent them from wearing out against effective guide plates. Self-aligning rocker arms should not be used with guide plates. IF you have non self-aligning rockers, and true guide plates, you need hardened push rods. I hope that since you went to the expense of new studs, that you got the 7/16ths" set up. Good luck, and...

:iagree: If you don't want to spend the $125 on Comp or another name brand, I think Summit has a "house" brand that's considerably cheaper.

they are non- self aligning. and are comp cam "real" guide plates. would it be easier if i just put self- aligning rr's on.

That combo requires hardened push rods. Easier? I guess that depends on how much "work", you feel is involved in changing the push rods.

The non self-alinging CC ProMagnums are about $260 and (I think) the self-aligning ProMagnums are over $300. So get the cost of hardened guide plates & push rods and do the math.

The reason I went to non self-aligning ProMagnums is that I wanted the sturdier 7/16" studs. Since you have to pull the studs anyway to remove or swap the stock non-hardened guide plates you might as well upgrade to new ARP 7/16" studs.

Don't foreget to get some light assembly lube and put a little on each end of the new push rods, on the sides of the guide plates and on top of the valve stem tips. Motor oil is fine to lube the RR rollers & tips.

BTW, CC lists the hardened push rod for out SBC as P/N 7808-16, 5/16" x 7.195" High Energy Pushrods.

Be sure you have pushrods for the factory roller cam. Normal SBC flat tappet pushrods are longer.
