i'm not sure if i have leaking injectors or not, but when i first got the car it used to start right up everytime. now after rebuilding the motor, it only starts right up like that after it sits over night. if i drive it, turn it off and try to start it back up, even if it's hours later, i have to let it crank over for a while, and then it's like whenever i let off the key it starts. and it's getting worse now that it's warming up outside. sometimes i have to try to start it twice.
anyways, i'm going to the track next friday night. does leaking injectors hurt performance a lot? or will i not be able to notice? i'll be able compare my past time slips from last year (before the motor rebuild) and see, but i was just wandering before hand
Re: how does leaking injectors affect performance? (corvettemaster)
If leaking is the only problem I would think that it would hurt idle more than WOT performance.
But if the injectors have degraded to the point that they are leaking, their spray patterns are probably bad, they might not be flowing 100% of what they should be and they all may have different flow rates. The worse case is that you could go lean during a run.
Re: how does leaking injectors affect performance? (sraft)
i'm not 100% sure it is leaking injectors, but i think if it is, then i know why they started leaking, causing it to be hard to start now. when i rebuilt the motor, i left the injectors/fuel rail/fuel pressure regulator all on the intake and just set it aside. maybe the o rings on the injectors got hard from sitting for a month??? it used to start perfect everytime before i rebuilt the motor and idle is no different than before as far as i can tell. i have new o-rings for the injectors. maybe i'll try replacing them sometime this week and see if that fixes it....if not, i'll buy some new ones i guess :smash:
Re: how does leaking injectors affect performance? (corvettemaster)
Bad O-rings would cause a vacuum leak, but I don't see how they could cause the injectors to leak fuel (I've been assuming that you've been asking about fuel leaking past the pintle - not air leaks past the O-rings). Injectors are expensive - a good alternative is to send them to Rich at www.cruzinperformance.com. If you can live with the car down ~2 weeks, he'll refurbish/clean them for ~$100.

A bad injector could cause it or a ruptured fuel pressure regulator diaphragm.
Easy to check the FPR. Get the car running for a minute then shut it off and pull the vacuum line off. If you see any fuel out of the fitting or in the line itself then the diaphragm has crapped out.
