He told me that the temp creeps up and up and overheats after 10 minutes or so
He also said that there's only cold air from the vents. Then when it reaches about 275 degrees the air gets hot and the temperature goes back down
Any ideas what this might be?
My first guess would be thermostat but I have no experience at al with the LT-1 cooling system so I figured i'd ask those who know
Sounds like a sticky thermostat. And or Make sure the radiator is topped off and burped. Make sure both fans are coming on. Check for trash around the radiator. Replace radiator cap. The usual suspects!
the thermostat isn't the problem, since the heater is on the block side of the cooling system. if the engine gets hot but the heater core stays cool, then there's no coolant flowing through the heater core.
it sounds more like a big air pocket and/or blown head gasket. did your friend check the coolant level? you might also want to make sure the air bleed/balance tube from the back of the cylinder heads isn't clogged.
