Default Help with smoking the tires!!

When I take off the line my tires do smoke. However when I go to the track and it is time for me to smoke my tires, I don't exactly know what to do. With my Fox body mustang all I do is hold the brake down and slam on the Gas and it smokes as long as I want it to. I am just a little concerned with the Corvette having ABS and all. I just need to know what to do. Thanks :auto:

Ah yes, smokey burnout 101.

is yours an auto or manual?

first, turn off the ASR. Can't have that on or it will ruin all the fun.

if it's an auto, just like you did in the old 'stang.

if it's a stick, put it into first and release the clutch like you hate it, whilst applying copious amounts of throttle.

don't worry, there is more than enough power and torque to over come the grip of those tires.

Either way, be careful... these cars will pull the rear to the right... the nature of the engines torque.

Secondly, if you have an auto, don't get carried away, the D36 rear end won't take a lot of this kind of abuse before packing it in.

Enjoy wasting tires!

I put mine in low before I hit the gas. Then put it back in drive when I'm through heating the tires.

Perfect! Thanks for all the info. The Vette actually has an Automatic tranny. What is up with the rear end? Does the Dana rear end take care of not having to worry about burning out too much? What do I need to do to the rear end to make my only worry WASTING TIRES????????? :reddevil :reddevil

I think it's a matter of low end torque and sticky conditions on the strip. After some HP mods you will have no issues doing a burn, out even at the strip. But for now, a little brake stand will get the job done.

Remember you don't want to do much of a burn out on streets; just spin em up to clean off any debris.

It's more important to pre-stage in the "rubber tracks" left by the guys running slicks, where the starting line is realy sticky. I run only streets and, when I do this, I can hammer it like I had DRs.

It isn't the burn out that stresses the rear end. It is what comes next. I do my burn outs in second gear (A4) for more wheel speed.

Street tires tear up the rubber and VHT prep for the guys with race tires. My track won't allow it. They put out cones for street tired cars, so they can't tear up the launch pad.

RACE ON!!!

Two Dana rear ends fitted. D36 in autos / D44 in manuals.
D36 will not usually sustain lots of abuse which is why high Hp guys change to D44 from a manual car.

Are we testing the tranny warranty?

Yeah, that was the initial thought that came to mind. I am thinking of taking the car to the track to see what it can run. What do stock C4's run as far as the 1/4 is concerned. I might as well sport the car while its on warrenty

Sorry about the jab. I saw your other post and couldn't resist. If you are bone stock and launch it right I'll bet you are in the 13's. Light break and heavy gas in D2. You will get all kinds of spin. Remember when you launch that wheel spin is your enemy. Good luck and be safe.

ASR=Acceleration Slip Regulation, or in laymans terms, traction control.

If it is on, the second your tires begin to spin at different speeds, ASR kicks in and stops it therefore hindering your forward movement in a timely manner. In other words, it's easier if you control the wheelspin rather than the computer in a drag race situation.

I'm assumeing you have a manual trans; you need a line-lock system to keep it from rolling through the beams. If you have an automatic, you need brakes!

because your tires are catching a little bit so it creeps forward.. i never do this on my car (dont want to ruin my brand new GS-D3's :) ) but if you start smoking the tires... alot... then just taps the brakes, the front brakes will stop the car but the rears wont catch so you have yourself one nice looking burnout at a nice standstill
