No balancing weights on driveshaft
My driveshaft, (84) has no balancing weights. My Helms indicate the weights are needed for balancing. Must all driveshafts, (84) have them?
Your input is appreicated, I will hold off on installing the driveshaft unitl I here from the pro's.

Re: No balancing weights on driveshaft (Brimis)
Not sure about all- but my 84 manual tranny driveshat has weights...I don't remember the exact locations (front\back) but I replaced the 4+3 with a ZF6 and had everything out under the car...even the driveshaft from the 96 driveline had them...
They looked to me as if they were welded on...not sure how they could have come off your's??? unless you have a perfectly balanced shaft....do you see any square marks on the shaft that indicate where they may have been?
Does the car shake under driving conditions? how do the U-Joints look?

Another tip...
I'm not sure about the older models but my 95's driveshaft and rearend yolk are marked. It's mentioned in the service manual. Look for a black mark on the driveshaft and a yellow mark on the yolk. These paint marks indicate the "heavy" side and should be assembled opposite each other. Believe me, it makes a difference...I had mine installed wrong once and felt the vibration.

It could be that it just didn't need any. Have it checked, balancing shouldn't cost too much.

If you are having a driveline shop installing the u joints, ask them to spin it up for you to see if there is a problem. Good luck, and...

my '93 shaft does not have any weights either.
I had new U-joints put in and then balanced, it didn't need any material added or removed. Locally, new U-joints & balance was $100

Weights are only used to balance-it's quite possible when constructed it was within tolerances and needed no further balancing-just my .02
