Thought I'd update, TPiS sent me a crappy Y-pipe. Thanks Virginia Speed for re-welding it!

I encountered the same thing - the TPIS Y pipe was FAR from a perfect fit. I'm still not 100% happy with it, but it'll work for now.

Michael,
I am going to be installing mine tonight and I am very interested in your comments. Could you give me some more details.

Or would you be interested in a free dinner in exchange for 'consultant work" tonight?

I'd like to hear about the Y pipe fitment problem too. My TPIS headers and Y pipe will be here later this week.

the headers bolted up with no problems and fit very well. however, when i slid the Y pipe over the collectors (each side evenly), i noticed that the back end was pointing off at an angle, making the rest of the exhaust from the cat back crooked. i had to play around with how far the Y pipe slipped over each collector AND do a little persuading with the cat converter to straighten it all out so the tail pipes were straight.
finally got it looking ok, but i expected better quality for over $700.

I had to have my Y pipe bent slightly at a local muffler shop. They didn't charge me for this.
I had the rear portion bent upward about 1-1/2".

These header companies charge plenty for their headers but I think they're REALLY gouging for their accessories. Connector pipes, "high flow" cats, etc. I think in most cases you're better off to buy the headers and the have pipes fabbed to fit your car. If it's a good shop, it'll be right the first time and you'll save money. JMHO.....

TPIS includes the rear y-pipe in the price of the headers. When I put them on my 85 I had some alignment issues, mostly due to getting them even on the header slip-fit connection, you really have to pound a lot. Then I still had an exhaust shop heat up the rear of the pipe and bent it up, got about 1 1/2" extra of clearance.

if i had to do it all over again, i'd only install the headers and have a good exhaust shop fabricate a true dual set up (with bullet cats, H pipe, etc.) from front to back. In fact, you've just given me a way to spend my money NEXT year...

Yeah, I had mine cut and re-welded to fit correctly. They were pulling the bottom of the headers off of the block on the passenger side. I was kinda disappointed for the price, but love the headers themselves.

Wow, lot 'o issues with the Y-pipe. I had no issues with mine and it tuck up just fine. I however also have the luxury of having an x-brace on mine which keeps everything tucked up nicely.

After fighting with it for a while, I figured that I would bring it to a muffer shop to have mine bent too. I was pretty sure that I COULD get it to work. But since I bought some of the peces used, I figured I'd just pay a few bucks to have everything stretched and re-flared, so that I didn't have to worry about anything.

I'll be posting a thread with pictures when I'm done.

Just a few inches. I am pretty sure that we got some good "before" pic's. When I put them together with the "after" pic's it should show up fairly clearly.

Once the Y portion of the pipe murges into one piece, it fits almost immediately into the central hanger assembly. If the pipe is a bit too low, it will not reach the hanger; or if it is not far enough forward (my case), the Y will have not merged completely and it will be too wide to fit into the clamp assembly.
