It seems like lately my low coolant light has had a tendency to come on every now and then. I notice it likes to do it mostly after I get into some higher RPM's. It'll only come on for a few seconds, probably because it pulls water from the reservoir and it's good to go.
I changed my oil and it looks great. No sign of coolant in there. Last time it did it I immediately checked my reservoir. It was almost full, and I haven't added any water in months (since I changed my heater core at the beginning of winter or so). I don't run excessively hot.
Does this sound more like a water pump going south or air in the system? It's not the original water pump and I'm only at 110k miles. I've also ran the car at idle for about 15 minutes with the cap off.
Anything else I should check, or should I go ahead and replace the water pump again while I'm doing my timing chain?
Edit: The car is an 88 Coupe. Also under the car is dry. No sign of coolant around there, and my heater core isn't leaking.
Mine used to do the same thing when I first bought my vette. I found it was the thermostat that wasn't doing its job. I replaced it and that did the trick.
