Hello,
I know there have been posts in the past related to this, but I was unable to find anything while searching (probably looking for the wrong contents)
At any rate, I have a new window guide (plastic part that stops the window from lifting too high) for my 94. For those of you who have installed this part before, how did you remove the old one? It is attached to the glass by a bolt and 2 nylon washers. I can't get enough pressure on the washers to remove the bolt (just spins)
any help would be great. Sorry if I have been too vague, it is a tough part to describe.
no one knows? i was helping him out last weekend trying to get this part off.
this part glides along a metal rod in the front of the door, and is attached to the window. the bolt attaching it goes through the window and then a nylon washer with a metal backer. the backside is flat, probably for clearance inside the door, and it has 2 holes in it, probably for a special tool to prevent it from free-wheeling as you try to loosen/tighen it. anyone know how to get this off or where to find a tool to hold it still?
I need to do the same to my '94 soon. There's a special tool you need to do it the 'Chevy' way, however I remember seeing an post about 5 months ago where someone used lock pliers to remove them. Good luck on the replacement.
I just did mine last weekend and I got lucky. After I took the inner panel out of the door I was able to reach around the back side of the mount/washer/threaded female portion and hold it with my hand. I seemed to be easy to hold by hand for me, but like I said, I was lucky. Once it was out I could see what they might have meant by holding it with needle nose pliers; while it is mostly just a rounded smooth piece on the back side, it is made of metal and had two openings on either side of the center. If you have the type of needle nose pliers that have the 90 deg bend on the tips then you would be able to insert the tips into the openings and hold it in place while you remove the bolt on the front. Make sure you use locktite on the bolt when you reinstall it, I am assuming that is why it just wants to spin right now, and that locktite is good stuff.... wish I had a pic for you, but mine is back together. It goes back together easy and you should not need to use the tool on the back to install it, just hold it with your hand.
