Changing passenger window lift motor
I am tring to change a failed window lift motor in my 94 coupe. Does anybody have any suggestions for removing the rivet that is directly behind the guide rail? Then of course once removed how to replace with a bolt.
It seems that with regulator all the way down the rivet is blocked by the guide rail. With the regulator in any other position the rivet is blocked by the regulator gear.
Thank you.
... I drilled the rivet to get the motor OFF - and left it at that! I replaced the other 2 rivets with 1/4x20x1" hex-head-bolts, and had to grind down the head on the one that ends up behind the regulator gear. The rivet still adds some support to the overall, and the two bolts hold things together.
I suppose you could fuss over it and un-peen the rivet, then re-expand it, but it works great with just the two bolts holding things.
All things being equal, I should have replaced the whole thing as an assembly, but the rest of the regulator was in very good shape, so I just greased everything with lithium grease and so far so good!
