Lots of people have been talking about cams as of late. Myself included. Seems all us LT1/4/mini-ram people are looking for a good cam to complement our intake. I was looking through the pace peformance book (which I don't know how I got) and Edelbrock list a roller cam for 87-95 engines with what seems to be a OK cam. specs are
I:234/E:238 Lift@.05= I:.539/E:.548
This caught my eye because I have 1.52 ratio rockers and all the XE cams have the duration I want but not the lift. I'd have to go through the trouble of selling my rockers and upgrading to 1.6, or custom grind.
The CC Xtreme line, like the Crane HIR series, have very aggressive ramp rates that provide more "lift" with a given duration. I dont know this calculates, nor do I know how to compare vs. actual higher physical valve lift. But the theory is that you need less lift ground into the cam, nor higher ratio rockers to achieve the same desired effect. Of course, adding lift via rockers adds more torque, but I don't know how this might correlate with valve guide wear.
Hopefully someone more intelligent than I will chime in :)
