HELP!!! MAFS out, descreening, do both sides???
Found a day off finally! What better time to spend than doing a couple of mods to my 86. :D
I got the Mass Air Flow Sensor off and want to descreen. I noticed it has screens on both sides. I am sure you descreen both, but wanted to make sure. If you can give me tips and hints I would greatly appreciate it, this is my first mod on this car.
I am also......
Installing Hypertech Thermo (don't laught, engine stock and got for free!! Heard it helps a tad with shift points)
160 degree thermostat
Cutting air lid
Cleaning throttle body
Muffler eliminators coming next week!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
If you can get back to me shortyl I'd appreciate it, daylight is trying to leave me, and I have no garage!!!

I think mid-america has them for about $12.

As long as the MAF is off, it's a good time to do the TB coolant bypass. Just get a section (several feet) of heater hose with a 180 deg bend. Cut one side short enough to slip on the water pump fitting and route the hose under the TPS sensor and down behind the A/C compressor. There splice into the heater hose for a nice stealth job.
Since you got that Thermomaster chip for "the right price" it's a good idea. It should bring the main fan on/off around that new stat. It won't modify shift shifts but will likely raise the TC lockup point as well as bump fuel & timing curves.
I see that you are doing the cut lid mod too. Now is the time to consider the SLP ram/cold air kit. It costs ~$160 but includes a stock size K&N air filter, so the effective cost is around $110...not bad for such a package. It is an easy mod to do and is worth about 5chp over the cut lid with K&N.
I hear ya on the daylight issue. I too must do all my mods in the parking lot and have been seen out there with a flash light from time to time......
Has anyone done a before/after dyno or g-tech on these mods?
