my windshield wipers work in pulse and low speed mode but instantly blows the fuse in high speed mode. The factory serv manual does not adress this problem so wtf. Also the amp pull across the fuse is a bit high ( manual spec is 6.5A in high mode and I'm getting about 8A in low mode) The amp draw is off scale in high mode and heats the wires on my meter. :banghead:
Sounds like you have a short in the switch or the wiper motor itself. You may want to take the motor out, remove the plastic cover, and give it a good once over with some contact cleaner and make sure you don't have any shorts inside the motor. I'll look in my electrical supplement and see if it addresses the wiper system. Stay tuned...

I was just sitting here disscusing this prob. with my good friend jack daniels
and had an idea. I dashed out to the garage and unhooked the conector from the motor and it is still dead shorted @ the fuse.
What does that sugest to you?
thanks doc.
well as I see it from your email and my elect sup. there are 3 possibilities
1 the swich is hosed
2 the diode in the diagram is hosed
3 there is a wire chafed to ground.
as far as the second, My elect training is verry limited and about 20 years faded in merrory so...
has anybody else had this prob?
I'm sure that I'm not the first to have this gremlin living in my car
so someone else speak.
 :banghead:  :banghead:  :banghead:
The wiper fuse is 25 amps, make sure you install ONLY a 25 amp fuse. On high speed, 12 v goes directly to the motor (purple wire on my 87). If the purple wire is chaffed, then unplugging the washer motor and putting it on high speed will also blow the fuse . If the fuse doesn't blow, then your have problems with the wiper motor.
thanks jfb
the circuit seems to be shorted to ground past the fuse block with the motor disconnected. I'll get to tracking this problem down monday. I'll be at the racetrack all weekend crewing my driver's Neon and hopefully getting a few HPCCC laps on the vette. I hope it doesn't rain :auto:
anybody else seen this prob?
