Default Supercharging an LT4

Can you run a supercharger on an LT4, or do you have to lower the compression ratio first?
Thanks

You can run it on stock engine but for longevity you really need an intercooler or water injection to help prevent detonation ( not to mention good tuning). Wouldn't go over 6 pounds, 8 at the very most with above mods.

I was running 5 lbs. on my P1SC ProCharger setup w/intercooler on a stroked Lingenfelter 383 at stock compression in my GS before I dropped compression to 8.5 and went with a 6 lb. setup (lowered compression in hopes of running more boost... wanted 9lbs., but then the shop didn't want to mess with a cog or 8 rib setup without alot more expense... oh well). I do miss the higher compression though! I agree, don't clear 6 lbs. without an intercooler setup at least. Mine ran fine with the intercooler at 5 and stock compression.

Thanks for the reply. What kind of additional power did that original set-up get you? Thanks.

Forgive me for quoting a catalog but Carroll Supercharging "claimed" 500 hp with 8 lbs of boost, 30 lb injectors, water injection and custom programming at 6250 rpm. Maybe somebody who has first hand knowledge will chime in.

I gotta be honest, I didn't get it on the dyno before I had a tranny incident that resulted in a spun bearing and I did the work while everything was torn down. The guy I bought the car from claimed 550 hp, but I have some doubts. The car runs alot better now than it did then, but granted I'm not sure if it's running more or less power since I didnt' get it on the dyno first. The night I broke it I was on it good and it was pushing so much power/torque that it forced the blood out of my hands and they went kinda numb like. I haven't felt it do that anymore and figure it probabbly has less torque now. Oh well, I hope that long tubes will help some with that! The spun bearing was b/c of the tranny not being willing to go into 5th... and after 3 or 4 tries... the next one found a gear... but 3rd. She's like new now and running strong, but the tranny was what caused the whole ordeal. It has since been rebuilt as well and is like new + some!
