Engine AND Trans Removal-'85 4 + 3
"If you had it to do again"....... I'm pulling the engine and 4+3 trans on an '85. Those with EXPERIENCE- what would you do( that is, hood ON or hood OFF??? Thanks, Jack

I don't see the engine and trans coming out in one piece without removing the hood.
I dropped my tranny from below, so I can't help you there.

Same way I did it 4 times, hood on, leave the tranny in,, I did it myself 3 times, once with the tranny off two with it on,, no one helping pulled and put it BACK in,,, just a one man band!
I had the fron of my car on ramps and the rest of the car on 3 ton stands with the bottom frame 16" from the ground,. the headers go in and out with ease,,, but the car needs to be higher if you want to pull the tranny cause,, with the tranny sitting on a tranny jack it is higher,,, thus the need for I believe 20" of frame to ground clearance.

I did it last weekend with the hood on removing the engine and transmission individually. If you have never done it before you should plan on spending some time getting the C-Beam out...the top bolts were a challenge to get to and once I got to them I was unaware that the bolt and nuts were different sizes...this still amazes me.
