Ok i might know what's wrong but i figured i'll ask. On my 86 vette i tried to remove the passenger valve cover to replace the gasket. The car ran fine before i did this. Tried but just could not get the cover to clear without taking the AC compressor off along with a pretty solid feeling hose in the back near the distributor. Anyway i put the cover back on the head, torque it down but now i get a stumble at idle. I was at a light and it felt like it was going to cut out. Sure enough it did but it runs great from a run. Not sure what it could be but i'm guessing i didn't get the gasket on right and i'm leaking vacum or something from the cover. Would that be a safe assumtion?
Well, what did you disconnect in your attempt to pull the valve cover?
You need to double check all the things on the engine that you disconnected.
You could have disconnected one of the vacuum hoses right near the fuel pressure regulator; the hose that runs to the throttle body from the valve cover; spark plug wire not firmly attached, arching or put on the wrong plug, etc.
Take your time and I'm sure you'll find the cause.
