I have a 160 stat as well as an electric water pump. My LT1 Vette NEVER sees under 180 degrees. But as soon as it starts to get hot, it cools off extremely fast and shoots down to like 190 or so. Probably averages right at 200. I also ran a 160 stat in my LT1 T/A and had zero issues along with programming for the fans. The T/A averaged around 180-190 degrees all day long. We also run a 160 stat in our LT1 Z28 with programming from PCMforless for the fans, no issues at all, car doesn't go down to 160 degrees. It stays consistently about 15 degrees cooler than it used to, but never goes too far down.
All good testimony for NOT using a 160* thermostat.
Not a single one of these cars takes longer to warm up than they did previously, and I've even sat there and watched the coolant digital display on days when my car was covered in snow.
They DON'T warm up appreciably slower, stuck in a snow drift. The situation changes, however, if you take it out and actually DRIVE it! It is amazing what a little air flow through the radiator can do. In case you hadn't guessed, that is why GM elected to put FANS in these things. Thank you for making my case for me.

RACE ON!!!

I prefer my car being cooler in the 200* range than over heating like so many LT1s have been known to do. (i.e. every LT1 we've owned as well as my numerous friends with LT1 f-bodies, not to mention all the posts on here annually with people concerned about high temps)

:iagree: I know I feel better with the 160 in. :yesnod: , not to mention I did a lot of searching through the archives (this appears to be one of the most talked about subjects) and have found no one with any engine damage, yet, directly because of a 160.. I'm still runing between 195-200 around town, too.. My goal is to stay out of the 220-230 range.. And the front of my radiator is clean, too :yesnod:

OK, don't shoot the messenger here, and no I do not get any royalties on his book, but YOU NEED TO GET THIS ONE! "101 Projects for your Corvette 1984 - 1996" by Richard Newton. It's on Amazon.com for around $21. He writes extensively about the fiction of the 160 degree stat and dubunks many other common myths that are out there. At least read it and make your own decision before you do this mod. :flag
