Default PKE Receiver Install instructions anyone?

I have a 94 vet and the passive keyless entry receiver went out. The light on the dash stays on and will not go off.

Below are all the steps I have completed.
1) Replace battery in FOB(Twice)
2) Purchased new FOB. (Old one would not stay shut)
3) Tried to reprogram PKE with instructions but unsuccessful. (Multiple attempts with different idea's posted)

Now unless someone else has an idea of something to try I am going to replace the receiver. Dealer wants 700 to replace the receiver and 60 to diagnose. I can get the Receiver for 285 at GM parts wholesale web page. Now all I need to do is find instructions for the install. Does anyone who has completed have instructions they can provide or the best source for the instructions? I have heard it is low on the firewall and many of the people who have completed said it takes 6-8 hours. The dealer quoted 2 hours according to their books. Let me know who has experiance completing.

Thanks,
Paul

I had the same symptoms as you and a new PKE receiver cured the problems. The receiver is located underneath the dash pad, behind the radio and heater controls. There's a plastic bulkhead between the receiver and the radio/heater, so unless you're willing to hack it out, you have to remove the dash.

Pull the airbag fuse and/or disconnect the battery so you don't accidentaly set off an air bag. You'll have to remove the shifter bezel, the radio/heat control bezel, all the vents, the instrument panel bezel, radio, heat controls, driver info center, headlight switch and the dash side covers to expose all the fasteners that hold the dash. If you start tugging on the dash before all the fasteners are out, you'll break some of the mounting points and may have squeaks/rattles afterwards. Once the dash is out, the PKE receiver is easy to replace. I would recommend that you reconnect the battery and try reprogamming with the new receiver BEFORE you reassemble everything - you don't want to do this twice. :banghead:

PS, look on ebay for the receiver. I got lucky and found a new one for $50.

good luck.
