Just curious if you find them laying around like the t56 and if not is it possible to swap in a t56 in its place if something happens, seems logical..... also is it comparable to the t56 in strength?
what fitment issues are different about the lt1 c4 as opposed to the l98 c4? I just heard the zf parts are hard to find and the tranny sounds more expensive at 1500 used...I can find t56's for less than a grand used if you look... If they are as durable as the t56 then I will probably die before it does though...

The only ZF fitment issues you will have is if you are using a D36 rear end...the D44 has a longer nose thus requiring a shorter Cbeam and drive shaft...I just put a ZF in my 84 Vette in lieu of the 4+3, and I had to use my old drive shaft and cbeam (with the ZF yoke on my 4+3 drive shaft) it fit like a champ! there were some mods I had to do to the tunnel section of the car (this due to the ZF shift linkage being internal and the 4+3 being external)
The T56 has been put into a C4 before...there is a guy who did it and posted a link...the main difference is that the Cbeam bolt placement on the t56 is on the wrong side for a C4- thus he had to fabricate a beefy adapter to make it happen....also the shifter itself came up in a different location- so he had to mod the shifter itself to allow you to use 6th gear...
As mentioned above- the ZF is a mean unit- I paid $1800 for mine (used out of a 96 with 35K miles on it) total install was shy of $2500 total parts- not including 2 weeks of my time! :-)
-Note: Installing the ZF on a single mass flywheel will make gear chatter- not sure about a T56...all in all- the ZF I have is AWESOME! best mod to date!
