thx Vader, but my mechanic (a vette specialist) told me the 88 is different from 89 and 87........according to him, I have to find one in a junkyard. I just can't believe with so many cars still on the road, that no one is making rebuild kits. Checked Ecklers and MAM, no luck so far. I'll keep trying.......

He said that because of the way the suspention ties into it, it was specific to an 88 vette, Im not sure if he meant the whole differential or just the posi unit. Im really quite clueless here, as you can see. Thanx for your help.

In the past I have bought all my rear parts from Toms diff"s I don't have the address or phone number handy it has been a couple years. Very fast service and good pricing. Most or all of the rear guts are still available direct from gmbut you will pay plenty.
First: Are you sure it is bad? Has the "posi traction" action gone away? I got a rude awakening a long time ago when a mechanic cured my popping and snapping posi traction, by changing the gear grease.
Second: According to my Dana (it is a Dana rear end you're dealing with) parts book, the diff case and internals (posi unit) are the same from 1985 - 1991. That's all the later my book goes.
It really frosts me when an "expert" says he knows, when he doesn't. There is no shame in looking something up. Maybe you two were speaking of different items? Or you misunderstood him?
Look in the phone book, under "truck parts", and look for the Spicer or Dana logo. Ask them if they handle Spicer axle parts. Good luck, and...
