A better solution is to manually lock the door when exiting, till you get the problem solved.
When you unlock the door with the key it should disarm the system; so perhaps the unlock position is not activating the disarm circuit. Look in the window at the DIC to see if it still shows "SECURE" (or whatever) after you unlock the door with the key.
Yeah same thing happened on my 86 but drivers side - car was like it when i bought it - i didin`t know cos someone had disconnected the horns and by passed the vats to solve the problem. Was a 45 min job to take off the door panel and clean up the connectors and i work real slow (check the wiring harness connector in there as well) - works fine now - and i got a horn again :D
One guy on the forum had this problem posted-turned out when he remove his key from the door lock it wasn't comming out perpendicular-so it wasn't making the contact inside.
