Default first my opti now thissss...??

i just replaced my opti and got a new water pump while i was at it because my car has 104k so i thought it was about time anyways..... that was about 2 months ago.... now my car has a new problem, after driving home one day i pulled up and came to a stop and noticed my car wanting to die on me and then finally just dieing(it first started bogging down below idle then eventually just stopped)... so i started it back up but not without alot of trouble, then got out and looked under the hood and all that i could here was a ticking(not a knocking) which seemed like it was coming from around the cam(not positive)... so i got back in and decided to pull it into the garage.. with my first touch of gas i got a loud backfire and then it putted in....i was just wondering if anyone has had this problem or one similar, or if anyone might be able to help me out.... i just got it out the shop and now it gotta go back-- please help meee

Sounds like to much fuel, could have a leaking injector. Go get a fuel pressure gage or stop by and we could stick mine on there. That year do you have? If its 94' or older we can hook up my scan tool and see whats going on if the fuel pressure is good and holding.

Let me know.. Denver :seeya :flag

C4Crazy787, it is a 94 and it sounds like that could possibly be the problem.. im gonna check it out and if i cant figure it out... i might have to take you up on pluggin it in and seeing whats going on with it... if that is still a possibility i would greatly appreciate it. if it is how should i contact you?

I would check the IAC... it will cause the engine to die when idling.

Check the fuel delivery, of course...

welllll...... today i decided to try and start it up.... so i did and it started up but with a little hesitation, however it was running fine, no noises, backfiring.. so i let it warm up to about 190 then i drove it about 5 miles.... until i stopped and parked to pop the hood and see how it was doin, after about 2 minutes of being parked it started the same thing(starting to die until finally it just stopped running).... so i waited a little and tryed to start it and it started barely and i drove it home and barely got back.... if it was a fuel problem shouldnt it have experienced that right when it started up? and does it matter that after i got it started back up after it died that it would be fine while cruising but then when it got to a stop it would start trying to die?

Don't just throw parts at it hoping to fix it. Put a fuel pressure guage on it as suggested. There is a procedure for narrowing down the fuel problem IF the fuel pressure IS the problem. IMHO.

install a pressure gauge on the fuel rail.

Turn on the key, and read the pressure. should be 38 lbs.

Take a pair of pliers or a clamp or crimp off the fuel line at the tank.

turn off the key and watch the gauge... if it drops, you have a problem in the fuel delivery.

if the guage maintains, then you have a good fuel delivery.

remove the clamp and watch the gauge. It should hold. If not, you have a problem with the fuel pump. The internal check valve is done.

Also, check the connections on the fuel pump harness. They have a tendency to get buggered up.

On the right side (passenger side) fuel rail between # 4 and 6 injector is a valve that look likes a tire valve remove the cap and with a rag and a small screw driver make sure to release any pressure, install the gage, the turn on the key but don't start the car. You should have atleast 41 psi, mine reads 42. Then if there are no leaks you can start the car, the pressure will drop some due to the vacuum applied to the regulator.

Oh yea the best money I spent on my Vette was the 90$ for the GM service manual. Get one here http://www.helminc.com if you plan to do much work on your Vet.
