I am in the progress of installing a 74219 camshaft. Heads are stock 113. I have new Crane springs and I am going to run the original 1.5 rockers.
I have been reading here on the forum on how to install the camshaft and I haven’t found anything about any problems with the higher lift of the new cam. But I have problems with that.
The valve guides (is that the correct word?) had to be grind down app. 0.16”. I had to buy new valve seals and grind down the shims to clear the new higher lift. Anyone had similar experience?
I am now worried that I will have problems with the valve to piston clearance…?
I have none and I had to do the same as you. Bolt everything up together. If you can turn the crank over with a wrench attached to it then you should be good to go. :yesnod: If you really want tocheck things out put some playdough on the top of a piston, bolt the head and everything together, then turn the engine over and pull the head and inspect the playdough.
Your stock rockers are self-aligning; notice the little dimples on either side of the valve spring. The valve guides were installed ONLY to help during factory assembly and so should NOT touch the pushrods as neither is hardened.
Lots of guys here run the 219 cam with stock #113s and even use 1.6:1RRs. But you should check those springs for coil bind and verify that they clear the seals at full cam lift.
