Default Final question before ordering new IAC

At the end of my previous thread, I posted that when I removed the IAC from the trottle body (but kept the electrical connetor on), jumpered pins 4-12 on the ALDL, and turned on ignition (but did not start), the IAC pintel did not seem to move much (if at all). I also tried moving the pintel in or out with soft manual pressure--wouldn't move but I could jiggle the pintel.

Does this seem conclusive that it is time to try a new IAC? The best price I found was through GMPartsDirect for $52.25. I checked a few auto parts stores and found prices to be higher ($59 from Autozone and $79 from NAPA).

Thanks.

Little is a relative term. You shouldn't be able to move the pintle in or out. If you do, you break it, or it is broken.

You did clean all the carbon off,... right?

I cleaned the tip previously as it had a layer of carbon and also cleaned the IAC passage. I thought that the "test" by shorting the ALDL pins was supposed to result in the pintel moving out a noticeable amount. The symptom I have been trying to track down is roughness at idle at various times (seems to depend on how warmed up the engine is) that immediately goes away once I hit the pedal and start rolling. Also seems to drive very well at all other speeds so I was thinking IAC or EGR based on other similar threads. By the way, opti, plugs and wires were changed 7000 miles ago so I am eliminating those possibilities.
