L98 balancer is it common??

Default L98 balancer is it common??

i was just wondering if the harmonic balancer on L98's do slip i know anything is possiable but is it very common???

They will slip if they age enough that the rubber ring deteriorates. I recently worked with Orlando85UCFVette to do a tune up on his engine, that went far enough to replace some leaking oil seals. When I got down to the balancer to pull it off so we could replace the front main, the outer ring of the balancer was about 1/4" farther back than it was supposed to be. High mileage, older cars, or cars that have sat for a long time without being run are most succeptible to this problem.

I had a little over 100K miles on mine when it slipped and rubbed a hole in the cam chain cover.

On my 85, the balancer came apart at about 115k miles...

Slip sure, but rotate? no. To rotate, all the rubber would have to be shot.. and if that happened. it'd just spin off the hub... boy would that be a mess.
