Re: Poll: What does a Dealer charge for replacing.................. (Caboboy)
OK, here's the damage broken down as follows: $175 labor, $13 hose, and $28 coolant........add in some sales tax and it totalled $220  Looks like the Noobster was closest on the poll. It probably woulda been cheaper to flyh him out here to do it
Did they throw in the vasoline for free or just sock it to you dry :mad
I'm going to save your post to show to show peoplw that think I'm nuts for the amount of PM I do.
Re: Poll: What does a Dealer charge for replacing.................. (KurtK)
Be happy that you don't have a LT1- the coolant probably would have fried the Opti. Then it would get expensive....
:withstupid: I had my Vette for only about a month when the 50 cent radiator drain plug broke. The engine compartment filled with moisture and it ran like crap until it finally died 3-4 months later. That bill was a nice welcome to Corvette ownership.
Sorry to hear that happened to you. If I would have gone to that GTG I would have given you a ride to an autozone or something to pick up some hose or at least something to patch it up enough for you to limp home.

I just happened to price that hose for my LT4 today at the local Chevy dealer. I think it listed for $141, not sure cause I decided to reuse my old at that price.
.
I just decided to check the hoses in the octopus on my LT-4 and broke off the upper overflow fitting on the fill tank. It came off so easy it must have been ready to fall off, the facory solder job looked incomplete.
New tank from GM Parts direct = $32.77 including shipping. (surprisingly low)
New octopus hose = $84.78 including shipping. (ugh, but it's a complicated metal and rubber asembly with several hoses and tubes. At least you can still get them)
Both about 60% of normal dealer retail, even with shipping added on.

Caboboy,
I must have just missed you on the way to In-n-Out. I was driving 680 from
Cupertino. Since you had to pay a small fortune to fix up the vette,
the next burger and fries are on me..........lol

BTW What I did is reconnect that hose from the tb to the tube under the right side cover. Pretty neat way to do tb bypass.
The above is for 96 LT4. I think some of the LT1's have a different hose layout for the tb.
That's the FREE way of doing the tb bypass, it's the way which I did it as well (LT1). I believe it's the 94-96 or 95-96 that get the easy-free way out where as others have said they needed to clamp the hoses with stuff froma hardware store (still BASICALLY free)
