I'm no mechanic at all, but I installed the hypertech thermostat piece and also a chrome thermostat housing....I started the engine up today after awhile of sitting, and I guess I didn't tighten the therm housing good enough, cause water was coming and sizzling. My question is it normal for the radiator hose to get pretty hot ? The hose that leads from radiator to the thermostat housing??? Please let me...thankyou
Re: Help.......question about radiator hose.... (chillcat)
Where excactly is the leak coming out from? From under the thermostat housing? Or from where the hose attaches to the housing neck? If it's from under the housing, I would suggest you use some RTV Sealant for a good seal to stop the leak. The upper radiator hose gets pretty darn hot to the touch. That is normal. Tighten the radiator hose clamp tight enought to not allow the hose to be twisted on the housing neck by hand, but still loose enough to not dig into the hose and cut it.

so why you say that, are they made differently, cause I think the person I bought it from used the stock and had it chromed.....
Mine is polished, not chrome plated. I guess that can cause additional heat if anything. I have not had any problems with mine, so I don't worry any about mine. If your radiator hose is hard even after the engine is idling at normal operating temps, you have a problem. Use a couple of rags to squeeze the hot hose of course.

Your probably right, I'll just use some rtv sealant. The leak is coming out the bottom of the thermostat...I'm pretty sure I tightened both bolts down tight enough--cause it was tough getting them back off yesterday, but I think the thermo might have had a "very slight" bit of slack, I wonder if theres a difference in the length of thread on the doublesided bolt--hmmm, never thought of that..thanks for rtv idea...I'm hoping the chrome thermo is the exact replica of the stock--size, thickness and all....
