My tranny or torque converter is pretty screwed up. The car is leaking a little bit of transmission fluid and it shakes hard under acceleration. The car also rumbles a bit after shifting into the next gear (auto transmission BTW). I'm hoping that it's just the TC, but should it be the tranny, what tranny do I need to be looking at? If it needs to be replaced I'd like to get the newest transmission that will bolt up to the L98. Also, I was curious as to wether an LT1 could bolt on to a transission that fits an L98 (if I ever want to put a newer motor in).
Thanks dudes
-Chris
please explain these U joints to me and Athingies. I am a n00b to vette tech :D. How is the L98 worthy of a rebuild? It's a 350 and it only makes like 245 brake hp. My car is also auto so it probably doesn't even make 200 to the wheels :(

"U joints" are universal joints. They are NOT "vette tech". ALL cars have U joints. Even the CV joints in a front wheel drive car are "U joints".

You asked transmission questions, and received transmission answers. Where does the, "How is the L98 worthy of a rebuild?" follow up, come from???
Yes, the LT1 engine should bolt up to the tranny, but you will find that the differences in wiring and computers makes for a complicated engine conversion .
The vibration you are feeling under acceleration could be due to loose u joints , most likely on the axle half shafts. Jack up the rear of the car ( jack stands of course) and examine the ujoints for loose play; there should be none. Replace them all if you find a bad one.
If you are going to stay with the A4 tranny, there is none better than to get a quality rebuild on the one you have. There are ugrades to the A4 you might want to consider. Try a search , you will find a massive amt of info on the A4 tranny in the archives
