Info is on the serial data line from the ECM to the dash. That line is also spliced to the diagnostic connector. To see if it's the ECM, ground the connector and see if the Check Engine Light will flash a code 12. If so, the ECM is probably ok and the problem is in the splice to the dash or the dash itself. If it won't flash a code 12, the ECM is usually the culprit.
