My cruise decided to quit. After talking to my local mechanic he didn’t think it was the servo. He said they rarely go out. He did a little checking and said the servo wasn’t getting any power at all. He thought it might be in the switch on the turn signal. After getting a price quote I decided to leave it for a while. Well today I starting thinking about the time I had all those problems with the brake lights staying on. The switch was very difficult to get adjusted properly. That got me to thinking that I may now have a similar problem with the switch on the brake or clutch for the cruise control. I dropped the hush panel from under the steering column and decide to see what I could find. I unplugged the switch on the clutch and hooked a meter up to it while the car was running and with the cruise switched to on. I didn’t have any continuity with the clutch pedal at rest or when I pushed it down, but if I pull ever so slightly back on it………BINGO!!!!!! So after pushing the switch a notch forward and rechecking the continuity everything seem to be in order. Took it out for a road test and Yippee! the cruise is operational again. Might be something to check into for those of you with non-working cruise as it’s not that difficult to fix and it costs only a little time. :yesnod:

Re: Is your Cruise not working. Possible simple fix. (R94 LT 1)
I just did the same thing to mine a couple of days ago after I installed a new cruise control servo. The rubber on my servo was torn so I needed another one.
I looked up the adjustment procedure in the GM Shop Manual and it directed me to depress the brake pedal fully; then while holding it depressed, push the switch forward as far as I can. Then release the brake pedal and pull the brake pedal rearward as far as possible to properly adjust the switch location.

Simple fix on my 87. A mousie had chewed through the vacumn line that ran to the accumulator. I cut off the bad end and pulled out the slack and reconnected it. WOW - it worked! The accumulator is located down by the left cornering light and looks like a round black plastic ball. :smash:

While we're posting quick fixes to cruise...
There are some vacuum lines that run near or below the battery area. On my dad's '86 all I had to do was replace the lines that had been damaged by battery acid sometime in the past.
Cost about $5.

Good point. If you've ever jump started a dead battery and then the cruise stopped working you probably knocked one of them loose off the servo. Ask me how I know.

I went through the same gyrations before I discovered that the brake/vacuum switches were the culprit. Sometime around '92/'93 GM changed the bracket/retainer that holds these switches from metal to plastic. This plastic retainer is prone to failure. The part (3537079) is ~$7 from the dealer.

Are these fixes good for an 85? Mine doesn't work and i haven't had time to check. Glad to hear alot of you are getting it fixed, hope mine does.

I don't know, but it wouldn't cost you anything but time to check.

Quick fixes, mine was easier than any of these, once I found it. The day I bought my Corvette, the cruise quit working on the way home, when I hit a bump.
There's a spring clip that connects the linkage at the vacuum advance, my clip had fallen off. It cost me 8 cents for a new one. :D

My CC works...but the thing it does, is if I set it, then use the switch on the turn signal to up my CC speed (say I wanna go from 60mph up to 65mph) it kicks it off. Dunno why..it's like the "Accel" portion does just that, speeds up, but doesn't reset the CC at the new speed.
