153 tooth is stock. If you buy an aftermarket gear reduction starter they are sold with dual bolt patterns. This means they will bolt to either flywheel. If you use this type of starter you will likely have to cut off the factory ring connector and install a female spade. Check directions though to be sure. No big deal to do.

I have seen starters with offsets. Does that matter?
If my memory is correct the 153 tooth flywheel has a starter that uses a straight across mounting flange. The 168 tooth has a starter with a staggered mounting flange. The aftermarket starter has 4 holes in the mounting flange to allow it to be bolted to the block in either location to mesh with flywheel .Whatever starter you choose, follow directions and shim if nescessary to have proper clearance between flywheel and bendix.
