Fabricating forced air induction system?
A friend of mine with a vet suggested we could fabricate a forced air induction system. I already have the cut open air filter. What we are thinking, is to remove the front license plate cover and fabricate something to channel the air into the air filter. I just don't see paying $450 for the system, it looks like just a few pieces of plastic. Anyone tried something simliar, or have any ideas as to what we could use for fabrication?

Heres an alternative, go to the ecklers/midamerica and buy just the front license plate part with the air inserts, about $120 and not the rest of the air induction parts---yes, I agree with you about the outragious prices...I did buy the whole kit, and love it....sure gives a tornado sound in front of the car. I haven't driven the car yet, cause of modifications being done to it. Behind the license plate there is already a small shaft running to the air filter and that should be ok, with your cut lid assembly, where is the lid open at? depending---on if you need to take a reciprocating saw and cut some more of the radiator sheilding away from the front view of the plate--just so all that new cold air is being poured down that tunnel and blown into that cut lid faster....But personally I stick with the tunnel and lid---full kit assembly--I paid about $40 cheaper through a guy I know, he has a wholesale membership to ecklers and gets me any part cheaper than eckler cost...thanks and hope this helped... :jester

Maybe you could try making a mold first then use fiberglass cloth and resin to make your ducting and bring a hose off the back to your air box. Probabally take alot of sanding and filling till you get it the way you want it but good luck. Just an idea

:iagree:
This is the way I would go about it. I built a center console for my old ranger using fibeglass. I used styrofoam to make a mold then covered it with plaster so it wouldnt melt. this is a good cheap way to do this mod, but beware it takes a long... long.. time to do all the prep and finish work. the finish product is worth it though.
you may be better off making somthing like the claw, that way you could leave it in the rough and paint it

On my 95 there's already a hole in the foam part of the bumper. So I cut back the plastic cover to expose it, and then took a hole saw and cut two 2" holes in the plastic frame behind it.
This makes for a cold-air system.
The nice thing about it is being able to cover it up on the street so no bugs or rocks get sucked into the intake.
