I've been getting a "Click, Click, then start" from time to time...or the starter will make some weird noises and the car fires right up. I'm guessing it's one or both, a. the solenoid is going b. the solenoid and the starter are quite tired at nearly 120K.
I have LPE long tube(1"3/4) headers on the car. Is it a difficult swap? does the passenger side header have to come down?
I was thinking a stock replacement...but am open to ideas or feedback.
Re: [L98] Starter replacement with long tubes..... (Jay 383)
Wish I could tell you what the install was like with headers :( but I can tell you I've replaced crappy O'rielly reman starters on several occasions and it never takes me more that about 10min to pull one out

Not sure with your LPE headers, but I think with my Hookers , I can manage to pull the starter out with the headers in place.

My system is just the opposite. With TPIS long tubes, I have to drop the header to remove the starter.
Starters are susceptible to header heat when running long tube headers. A full starter heat shield is recommended.
After I started having intermittent starting problems I decided to install a heat shield. Since AutoZone didn't have one, I just went with a heat shield that fits around the new solenoid.
It's been a couple of years now with no further problem.
