When the U-joints in my right half-shaft were bad I got a clicking on accel, but you might check out yours as well as looking over the suspension bolts & bushings.

I have that same 'pop' you are talking about. Mine is not even remotely related to exhaust noise.
It is a deep 'pop' and quite loud.. something in the suspension is very slightly changing position... maybe the C-Beam is moving slightly... maybe a torqure rod end is making the sound.. I don't know.
Mine had been doing it for about 5 years.... it really doesn't bother me and I felt it was just (another) one of those Corvette 'quirks'.

If your torque arm is loose this can happen. Watch the shifter carefully when you hit the gas. If you can see it move more than a little bit you'll need to tighten the torque arm and your popping will go away.
My torque arm managed to get so loose that the shifter would move upwards an inch or better under throttle. It was at the track one day, when I noticed that at WOT the tranny came up enough to hit the tunnel I decided it was time to lay off and go home. Tightened the torque arm up and everything is fine.
