I've read time and time again about people's problems installing these pans. I know that you have to clearance for the second knock sensor on the later motors, but the rest of the installation was a snap...Had no issues getting the pan to fit around the pump and pump pickup, and have no issues getting the dipstick and dipstick tube in....
Re: Canton Pan Install "problems" <-- confused (CorvetteZ51Racer)
i don't recall anyone complaining about fitment. keep in mind, though, that canton used to ship those pans without the hole in the tray, such that the stock dipstick didn't work.
also, if you're fitting it with the engine in the car, fitment becomes a little less trivial, especially if you have a stroker and really large 4-bolt main caps.
lastly, i'd hardly say you had "no issues." any time you have to modify the oil pump, that means someone screwed up. i don't think too many people on this forum would be able to quickly fix a situation where the pickup doesn't fit the pump like in your case.
fitment aside, there are people running these pans who have oiling problems, myself included.
Re: Canton Pan Install "problems" <-- confused (MSR)
Hi Michael,
Can you reiterate what kind of problems you are having with this pan? Do they stem mostly from the pump you are using, or they directly related to the pan?
Re: Canton Pan Install "problems" <-- confused (luvmy92)
mike, we touched on this in the other thread, the loss of oil pressure at high rpm thing. i couldn't say if it's pan or pump related, or a combination of the two. i've seen people with canton pans and no problems at all, and i've seen people with stock pans and HV pumps with no problem at all either. why it's not working well on my car, who knows...
i'm going to try a stock pump, i just haven't gotten around to it yet.

Ahhh...was not aware that they had changed the tray recently.

I didn't mean to indicate that I had no "issues" with the oil system, but merely with the pan. Yes, someone somewhere in Melling is confused about the ability of the canton pickup to fit their pump without significant modification. I guess my main point was that I was reading a lot of horror stories about even getting this pan to fit the motor, and have been fortunate enough to not have any at this point. Maybe Canton's VERY recently changed some of the pan dimensions, I don't know. I was more confused with myself in that it seemed too easy, like I was missing something. That's all.
