Default Code 24

****THIS IS POSTED IN SCAN/TUNE AND TECH/PERFORMANCE****
Just got done trying out the little A-B Jumper trick on my 85, and I came out with a code 24. That shows as being the Vehicle Speed Sensor. It read that that it could just be a bad connection or possibly an ECM going bad. Anyone had this code before and have any suggestions? I've never done anything computer related on this car, so forgive me for asking, but where is the ECM located, and which wires should I tighten. Likewise, where is the vehicle speed sensor? Thanks for any help!!!!!!!!!

The VSS signal comes from the A4 speed sensor, through the I.P. Cluster into the ECM.

The ECM is located just behind the right I/P just above the hush panel. Remove the hush panel and the two screws holding the ECM and lower the ECM.

There are two connectors into the end of the ECM. Locate pin A-10 in the 32-pin connector and check the voltage when the vehicle is moving. It should vary between 4-6Vdc; if it is >10Vdc there is a problem in the I.P. Cluster; if it is not varying there may be an open in the cable between I.P. Cluster in D-12 and ECM pin A-10.

Thanks alot. Tomorrow I'm going to take it apart. My digital cluster has has been acting up for a while, and I've been putting off fixing it. It flickers and will cut on and off alot while driving. Especially in very humid weather or during rain. I assume it is just shorting out. This morning while on the way to work, the SES light came on while on my way to work. Since then, the cluster hasn't come back on. I didn't put the two together until you said that the speed sensor signal goes through the dash. Where is the Speed sensor located on the transmission and how difficult is it to change out? Just wondering in case it comes to that!!!!!! Thanks so much for the advice, it has been extremely helpful!!!! :seeya
