Default oil sensor?

hi, i know on some cars they have a gauge that actually conducts tests of the oil and then based on what it finds out, tells you if you need to change the oil. is it the same on C4's or does it just do it by milage?

I personally go by mileage. Every 3K. Makes me feel all warm and fuzzy.

I think our change oil light is based on RPM over time. I seldom wait for it to come on though... guess thats why my bearings had no wear when I pulled it down at 78K for a leaking head gasket.

On the LT1, the computer figures out when it should be changed based on a set of programmed-in parameters (rpm, temps..)

You're not supposed to just go by that, and you do need to reset it by yourself otherwise it might pop up 500mi after a change.

It doesnt 'test' the oil or anything.
