Something not mentioned yet too is to make sure your roller lifters are for street use. There is a difference. The ones for racing can be used on the street but do not have provisions for extra oiling to the bearings on the lifter causing premature failure with street driving. They'll last a while but are not as reliable for the extended time without the extra feed of oil. Look at Comp Cams site and they have some information on that, and their 'replacement lifters for the earlier bloacks'. Regardless, best of luck.

There are enough roller cams out there to satisfy any need. If you decide to cam up, the lifters you have can be reused if they pass inspection. This helps the budget. To replace them is about $200. Some guys replace them for good measure. I don't. I have 255k on a set that have had the s**t beat out of the and they are still good. If I changed them with every cam swap I would be on the 5th set. :chevy

What kind of inspection are we talking about, Pete?

Any time you have a roller lifter out, Inspect the wheel for tightness (not wobbly on axle) and roll wheel with thumb to check for smoothness. Also check outside of lifter body where it rides against block. Shined up is ok but heavy wear scraps them. If they are coming out of a motor that has been overheated, run without oil or is filled with crud, toss them. If the come out of a perfectly good cleaner motor I would reuse them if they pass test. You decide. If in doubt, throw them out. :flag
