Default Desired Shift Time Table questions

Okay so I've been trying to get the 2->3 shift to work right at WOT. I have played with the UpDown Shiftpoints tables, keep on lowering them to try to give the tranny time to shift before hitting the rev limitor. Problem is it doesn't seem to pay attention to the values. I now have it as low at 62mph, and it will rev all the way to 70mph at WOT hit the rev limitor and I have to let off a little to get it to shift to 3rd. Not sure what the issue is at this point.

Now I was looking at the Shift Time tables, they look very strange to me, can't anybody explain why most of hte values are really high? Is that normal or because they installed a TransGo Shiftkit among other upgrades....

Here is a copy of the table

1->2 2->3 3->4 TPS %
0.55 0.55 0.60 0.0
0.65 0.75 0.80 6.3
0.82 0.80 0.80 12.5
0.78 0.78 0.78 18.8
0.80 0.75 0.75 25.0
0.80 0.80 6.38 31.1
6.38 6.38 6.38 37.5
6.38 6.38 6.38 43.8
6.38 6.38 6.38 50.0
6.38 6.38 6.38 56.3
6.38 6.38 6.38 62.5
6.38 6.38 6.38 68.8
6.38 6.38 6.38 75.0
6.38 6.38 6.38 81.3
6.38 6.38 6.38 87.5
6.38 6.38 6.38 93.8
6.38 6.38 6.38 100.0

Yep, its very cool, major upgrade from my 85s 700R4. I think I finally have it straighened up guys on the TunerCat listserv have anwsered what I needed to know. I am also making hte program work so when I manually select 2nd gear it will not downshift back to 1st under high load for AutoX use.

Can you elaborate on what needs to be done to prevent the down shift? I am sure if I played with TC enough I'd figure it out... I am in the same boat as you, trying to get the A4 to act as much like a manual as possible on the course!

With your shift kit, does can you still engine brake, or does the engine freewheel?

I've gotten it pretty good now. As you know with the 3.73s 1st gear is pretty much useless as its over in about 2 seconds if you get a decent straigh at the start of a course.
I use the Shiftpoint Manual tables and set the downshift settings down to 7mph for the 2-1 shiftpoint. This pretty much eliminates all downshifting. I set all the RPMs to 1024 in the other supplimental tables. I got that tip from TunerCat list. This way you can use MPH to set all shiftpoints. Before that I had a real problem getting it to work right. The OBD-I computer has issues with large stalls (in my case 3K), and does seem to lag behind. I still have it slam into the rev. limitor sometimes, but much better then before. I normally have to set the shiftpoint MPH about 5mph slower then the desired point. This gives it time to complete the shift.
If you want I can email you my current BIN files. I am thinking about playing with the TCC lockup now in 2nd gear, as with the 3K stall speed it gives you a kinda lurchy feel off of corners. I've been having a hell of a time getting smooth. Doesn't help that I have been running on street tires. I should have my Kumho V710s (315/35/17s all around) by next event from what I understand so that should help a TON.
With the Vigilanti TC you get MASSIVE pull back. Feels exactly like a manual when locked up, and most guys watching the car have been quite suprised to see its an Auto when I get back into grid.

I normally run with it in 2nd for the start, just because I have not been able to manually push to 2nd without slamming into the rev. limitor every time. 2nd with 3.73s has plenty of torque still, way more then street tires can hold.

My engine will freewheel if below 3K or not locked up. Takes some serious getting use to, especially on the freeway. You tap the brakes and the TCC will uplock and engine drops to about 1000rpm, once release it will lurch back up to speed and lockup. I find that giving it a little gas just before fully letting off on the gas gives a nice smooth transition.

If you need any more help give me an email richardj@safier.com and perhaps I can help you out some. Admittidly I'm still getting into the tuning but been pretty easy so far. Also I've been bumping timing up a lot. Up 4degrees from LT4 stock tables, and no knock retard yet.
