I recently tried to suck out diff oil, with a suction gun and no matter how I manipulated the hose I could only get out about half a quart. I used a small vaccuum line so it would be flexible and small enough to get to the bottom of the case, but no luck. Has anyone else have a better way, other than dropping the whole rear suspension out of my 96.
Is it possible, or has anyone tried drilling and tapping the case to make a drain plug on the bottom or rear of the case? Any help would be great!!
Corvette Central sells a Differential Drain Plug Kit Item# 584029. I was thinking about getting one myself for my vette. www.corvette central.com

Is the suction gun up for the task. Is the hose flexible/long enough to reach the bottom.
Are you sure it was full?
Yes it was full, the oil was running out of the case when I took out the plug. And the suction gun was brand new Snap-on, and was up for the job and the hose was long enough too. It just kept hitting something and sucking air, but only put a posi lube and half a quart back in. With only 18K miles on the car, the oil was pretty black, so I would like to do a thorough change.
The next time I go to change the fluid, I heard you can drill out the middle bolt at an upward angle to empty the diff. Then you silicone the nut and replace it and you're all set.

Re: Changing rear end oil.... (96CollectorLT4)
 For what it's worth
I use a "battery water" squeze (spelling) ball syringe to wich I have attached plastic tubing with a piece of wire coat hanger taped around it. It took a lilltle doing to get the right angle on the coat hanger, but I can get the whole contraption down close to the bottom of the housing
I use a Mity-Vac vacuum pump with their fluid transfer kit(optional). The pump and kit were only $65.00, available from Eastwood Co. or some auto parts stores. Works great. Insert the clear hose on the pump into the fill plug hole and pump it out into a mason jar. It can be used to pump out any fluid, oil,ps fluid, brake fluid etc.

I too, need to install the drain plug. I have the tools--drill/tap,plug. All that's needed is the proper location to drill.
Could someone please post the "location timplate"? Or an discreption/measurements for the 'plug placement.TIA

If you would have read the whole post, you would have learned that I already ordered a kit to make a drain, like a MAN!!!! Thanks for the wheels by the way, remember me now.... :seeya
