Default shifter wiring ?

Ok, due to the fact that my stupid hard drive broke, i lost all the info that i have been saving for my tranny swap. can anyone tell me what the wires going to the shifter on an auto are for(1985 vette auto tranny)? there are like six of them i think. i have everything done on the swap except for wiring the tranny (4+3). oh yeah, does anyone know how to make the overdrive unit into a manual control, instead of puter controlled?

In the stock setup the ECM controls a O/d relay mounted on the firewall. There are also 1st gear lock out switches on various years that stop the O/d engaging in 1st gear. You can make the O/d manual operation by running a hot wire through a convenient switch to the O/d unit if you want full manual control.

The speedo drive plug will fit either trans. The other wires from memory on a auto are TCC lockup and 4th gear indication to the ECM, not needed for manual operation.

ok, where on the tranny do i need to wire a switched hot source. the blade connection coming out in front of the speedo conn? also, i am not talking about the four wire plug that plugs into the auto tranny, i meant the connector on the auto shifter itself.

You should get the manual tranny OD relay and wire pins as follows:
-C & E into the Pnk/Blk wire going to the GAUGES FUSE
-D to the ALDL pin F
-A to the OD Solenoid in the LH side of the tranny in the tail shaft housing and to the OD Indicator Bulb in the Telltale Assembly
-B to ECM pin A7 or, for manual OD control, wire a SPST switch to ground.

If you use a SPDT switch you could hook up so that you could switch select manual or automatic OD control. Simply wire the center pole to the OD relay pin B, one side pole to the ECM pin A7 and the other side pole to ground.

The 1st Gear Switch (LH side of tranny below 1-2 shift shaft) connects via a Lt Blu wire to ECM pin C8.

The OD Select Switch (in the console near the shifter) connects to ECM pin C7 via a Lt Blu wire at a 6-pin cavity (behind RH side of I/P, near dash grommet).

thanks 65zo1. what you describe will make the od operational, and use the indicators that are already there, right? what about things like making my reverse lights work, and the neutral safety switch? which wires are for that? i assume they are the ones from my old atuo tranny shifter plug. just dont know which ones. thanks again  oh yeah, is the od relay is the same type for maf power, fuel relay etc?

I don't have a P/N on that relay but wouldn't count on it being the same, though you might try one.

The backup light switch has Dk Blu wire to the fuse and a Grn wire to backup lights and the gear selector switch.

There is a Yel wire from the ignition key in parallel to the clutch switch (under I/P near clutch pedal) and to the gear selector switch. There is a Grn/Wht wire in parallel from the clutch switch and from the gear selector switch to the starter interroup relay (in center of the I/P in multi-use center). This pararllel hook up allows you to start either with the clutch pedal depressed or with the clutch out and the shifter in N.

Let me know if I missed any wires; the problem is that I don't have a pic of just shifter wiring so must search out parts on various pages depending on the usage.
