Have a '91 coupe on which I installed Bendix pads with lifetime warranty. Meaning they will replace the pads at 2/32. That was seven years ago..with 40k on the fronts and 42k on the rears. At inspection this month the fronts are 4/32 and rears at 5/32. Still have nearly two years left at this point. Mechanic said the rotors would probably need replacing too as the pads are a hard composition. This makes sense to me. He also indicated that I could replace the pads today not under the warranty and go back to OEM and the rotors may still need to be placed over the next two years. I opted to stay the course and if necessary after the two years replace the pads and rotors. I figure that rotors will be 15 years old at that point and probably it's time to replace under normal conditions. And I may sell within the two years and replace..a vette of course. Your opinions and thoughts please.
Seems like you've done your homework. My main concern is getting the correct pad compound and then look at warranty. Bendix makes really good pads for a variety of applications. That said, I usually keep vehicles for 100-200K and the better warranty is sometimes a factor.
Well first off, great choice with the Bendix pads, in my opinion, the best pads on the market today.
Rotors are a normal wear item and do get eaten up by the semi-metallic pads but... Sounds like he's feeding you a line of crap. If he checked out the pads (pulled the wheels off), he should've used a micrometer to measure the rotor thickness and then checked a specification book.
You never know, they might have been able to be resurfaced. Just my 2c.
