My 85 is missing. It will run a bit rough and eventually slow right down and die. If I keep giving it gas it will keep running. Will WinALDL tell me what cylinder is missing? Also what things should I check once I figure out which is missing? Check spark plugs, injectors, what else?
Also you will hear a high pitched whine in the videos. I can't seem to find out which vacuum tube it is coming from. Any ideas?
GENERALLY SPEAKING, if it dies when you try to accelerate, check your fuel system first. Start by hooking up a fuel injection pressure tester on the Schrader valve and see what reading you get. It should be somewhere in the neighborhood of 32 to 35 psi. This will indicate the fuel pressure BEFORE it gets to the injectors. If your fuel pressure is low (with the engine running), first change your fuel filter, then check the fuel pressure again. If it still has low fuel pressure, check your fuel pump (it may need to be replaced). Check your MAF and make sure that the wires in the MAF are still going across and none are broken. The next thing that woulld help is to know whether the symptoms came on suddenly or if it came on over a period of time.
If it's not your fuel system, it could be electrical. Spark plugs, plug wires, distributor or even a worn cam. That's why it's important to know whether it came on suddenly or over a period of time. You can eliminate the worn cam theory by doing a compression test on the cylinders.
When my fuel pump went out, it acted just like I ran out of gas. It would start, by as soon as I tried to drive home, it would sputter then die.
