Default 1984 ECM

I have a 1984 coupe and I want to get to the ECM to back probe. I know that it's behind the passenger side dash.Has anyone that has had this experience please tell me what I need to remove to get at the ECM?

...I want to get to the ECM to back probe...
...Huh???... "Back probe"???...What's that???

I have an 870 ECM sitting here...Don't see anything on the back to probe...Or I'd be probing it, believe you me!!!...  :D

OK; get upside down in the pass seat; look up at plastic panel w/light in it under the dash (about where your girlfriends feet usually are). That has to come off; some screws & unplug light. Push wires out of way; look for cream-colored plastic bracket w/two 10mm-head screws in it. Take screws out; ECM is above it (it holds ECM up). Disconnect wire harness connectors and pull ECM out. It looks like an aluminum hardcover-book-sized box.

After the first time, you can do it by kneeling next to car and laying mirror on floor to see (a trouble light helps). But directly looking is pretty much required, the first time.

The chip is under the 2"x4" plate on the ECM.

:withstupid:

And be careful! You don't want to have to replace those things ($$$ & hard to find). So I'm thinking that if you need to post in order to find the ECM, you may not want to mess with it anyway.

Not trying to be a punk- but it sounds like you're priming yourself for a heap of trouble if you don't know what you're doing (especially if you're going to "probe" anything in the ECM).

Good luck!
